Scope and Contents

From the Series:

The St. Anthony of Padua Priory records document the administration, pastoral leadership, parish life, publications, finances, and commemorative activities of the Dominican community in New Orleans from 1939 to 1979, when the priory/parish was part of the Holy Rosary Province and later the Central Province.

The records include early foundation documents, Dominican pastors and parish groups such as the Holy Name Society.

Also included are parish publications and ephemera such as Holy Name newsletters, bulletins, Parish Reviews, Padua 20’s materials, commemorative booklets, and a 1967 school yearbook. Additional records document finances, architectural drawing, and photographs, including a wood print picture of friars in front of the church with Emmanuel Suarez, O.P., Master of the Order, in 1948.

Together, the materials provide evidence of the religious, educational, social, and institutional activities of St. Anthony of Padua Parish during its years under Dominican administration in New Orleans.
