St. Albert the Great / "Bennet" House, 1969-1974
Scope and Contents
This series contains correspondence, administrative, canonical, and financial documents relating to the former St. Albert the Great House, also known as "Bennett House," in the Chicago, Illinois. The documents range from the gifting of the property in 1969 to its closing and sale in 1974. There is a particuarly large number of financial records and forms from the late 1960s and early 1970s that show the Province of St. Albert the Great's financial formalization of houses following the 1969 Chapter.

Biographical / Historical
Gifted to the Province by Mrs. Charles Roberts in 1969. The community was located at 6851 S. Bennett Avenue, nearby to the new St. Dominic / "Euclid" House in the South Shore neighborhood of Chicago and was intended to be a residence for friars involved in provincial and publishing work. After several years, the Province moved away from their commitments on the Southeast side of Chicago and closed both "Euclid" and "Bennett" houses, selling the latter in 1974.
