Biographical / Historical

The Dominican Ecclesial Institute (D+E+I) was established in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 2002 as a collaborative ministry of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, the Dominican Friars of the Province of St. Albert the Great, and the local Dominican third-order laity. D+E+I functioned as a lay-led adult education and faith formation ministry and theological institute, serving the Archdiocese of Santa Fe with a primary focus on members of partner Catholic parishes and faith seekers in the Albuquerque area.

The Institute's stated mission was to live out the Dominican charism of praising, blessing, and preaching through lay-centered theological education. Its programming centered on structured educational opportunities for adults, including guest lectures, a theology and philosophy book club, and missions in local parishes. D+E+I also engaged outreach through media, ABQ Theology on Tap, and listings in the Catholic Community Calendar. The institute additionally sponsored an annual awards event honoring individuals engaged in ministries that nurtured adult faith life within the Archdiocese.

D+E+I ceased operations in 2023, following the departure of the Dominican friars from the University of New Mexico Newman Center, which had served as the institute's institutional base.
